Growing up it seemed that no matter what was wrong with my brother and I, my mom always had something with a nasty taste or smell that would heal any cuts and scrapes and I swear if I came home with plague she would have made some kind of bubbling potion that would cure it.
Tea with Lemon:
The first thing they will tell you to do when you get a cold is to drink tea with lemon. This will usually relieve some of the symptoms and give you temporary relief. The reason this works is simple. The hot water from the tea helps open up your repertory system, and the lemon is full of vitamin C which is good for your immune system. Taking vitamin C everyday can help you avoid cold before they start.
Garlic:
Back in the day my mom would give my brother and I garlic soup. The soup has antiseptic properties, the oil in the soup help open the repertory system and it helps reduce fever in the body, and by adding some onion juice to the soup you can help flush unwanted toxins from the body, but be prepared because you will sweat them out.
Reduce a Fever:
It is not uncommon for someone with a cold to have a fever. A good way to reduce the fever is with Ginger. When cut up and boiled in water ginger has been found to lower a fever in a matter of hours. A less bitter way is to put a small piece of ginger into a glass then pour boiling water in the glass, after letting it sit for 2 or 3 minutes put a tea bag in the glass and add some sugar. This method is less effective but tastes much better.
Okra:
Okra is a green vegetable, that kind of looks like a cross of a pepper and zucchini. The vegetable is filled with Mucilage, which is great for soothing sore throats. Cut about 10 grams of Okra and boil them in about 1 liter of water. After the water boils you can inhale the steam and drink the water. The water will look oily. This oil is what sooths your sore throat.
Tamarind and Pepper:
A great way to relieve a stuffed up nose is Tamarind and Pepper soup. The soup is made by adding 50 mg or Tamarind into a pot with 1 cup of water. Bring it to a boil then add one teaspoon of hot ghee and half a teaspoon of black pepper. You should have 1 cup of this soup 3 times a day. After drinking you will fell your nose start to run and your eyes will water, but within minutes your sinuses will be cleared out.
Bitter Gourd Roots:
Many of my mom's remedies are for relieving the symptoms of the cold like a fever or a sore throat but this one is for clearing up the actual cold itself. A past of the gourd is used with honey with a 1 to 1 mixture. A teaspoon of the mixture is taken at night for a month. This will remove the cold germs and help strengthen the immune system.
Turmeric:
Turmeric is a cure all. It not only relieves the symptoms of the cold like runny nose and sore throat, it also helps kill the cold germs and strengthen the immune system all at once. The turmeric is bought as a powder. Add half a teaspoon is added to a cup of milk them boiled. The steam should be inhaled while it is boiling then poured into a glass, allowed to cool slightly then drink twice a day. Your nose will start to run much more then before but in a day you will feel much better.
These are just a small example of all the home remedies that are out there. I have personally tried several of these methods, and can vouch for their effectiveness.

How To Induce Your Labor
By: Gen Mason
So you are nine months pregnant, you’re excited and can't wait for the day to come. You wait and you wait and you wait, still nothing. There are few things as frustrating as this, I know from personal experience! There are many little things that you can do to try and speed up your time. Of course this should only be done after consulting your doctor and when you are already in your ninth month of pregnancy. Getting labor over with is all fine and good but not at the expense of the baby’s health!
Here are safe ways to induce labor and finally have that baby:
Walking
Many women walk, A LOT. Walking stimulates the muscles in your uterus and may stimulate contractions.
Tea with Thyme
It has been said that tea wit thyme has induced labor for many women.
Scalini’s Restaurant
This restaurant is in Georgia. Three hundred women in the past 23 years have gone into labor within 48 hours after eating their eggplant parmegiana. It is said that it is not actually the eggplant that induces labor, but the seasonings added to the dinner. Basil and Oregano are said to contain herbs that supposedly can stimulate labor contractions.
Primrose oil
This is another natural product that is said to start contractions.
Castor Oil
This oil is said to cause contractions because it causes diarrhea. The cramps from the diarrhea are said to start cramps in your uterus, which starts labor.
Acupuncture
This is sometimes used to induce labor by placing acupuncture needles on the inner calf and between the thumb and forefinger. You can also rub these 2 areas for 30 seconds each and that is supposed to induce labor.
Doctor Stripping Membranes
The doctor can strip your membranes by inserting 2 fingers into the woman’s uterus and moving them from side to side, pulling the membranes away from the cervix wall.
Sex
It is said that sex can start contractions, by the penis thinning the uterus and preparing it to open.
Black cohosh and blue cohosh
These are said to stimulate the start of contractions.
Raspberry Leaf Tea
This method was used by the Native Americans and is still sometimes used by midwives on their patients. The concept of it is based on all the others; it stimulates contractions.
Nipple Stimulation
This odd method causes oxytocin, which in turn makes your uterus contract.
Cinnamon Sticks
Boil cinnamon sticks in with your tea and drink it, yummy and effective.
Relaxation exercises
Relaxation exercises have been known to relax the woman into a state for labor to start. You can find a variety of relaxation exercises online.
It should be noted (again) that none of these ways should be used unless the pregnant woman is near her due date. More than likely they will not work anyway unless the baby is ready to be born. You can give nature a little nudge but not likely a giant push, which you would not want to do anyways.
If you are in your ninth month, tired of being huge and just too excited that you cannot wait, these are excellent ways to try to start you labor.
